$28,077 for Newcastle Legacy Fund - 20 December 2011 Through the Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) Program, the Service Delivery Integration (SDI) grant will assist the organisation to conduct a feasibility studiy to identify more collaborative and efficient arragements for the provision of pensions, advocacy and welfare services to veterans into the future.
$165,300 for High Care beds - 22 December 2011 Through the 2011 Aged Care Approvals Round, three new high care residential places have been granted to Bethel Aged Care Facility at Waratah.
$971,446 for Day-to-Day Support for Novocastrians with Mental Illness - 20 December 2011 Under the Support for Day to Day Living in the Community (D2DL) program, funding will be provided by the Federal Government to Newcastle PRA (Psychiatric Rehabilitation Australia) to deliver structured personal and social support to more people living with a mental illness in the community.
$2,090 to the Friends of the 2nd Infantry Battalions Inc - 19 December 2011 Funding has been announced for the Friends of the 2nd Infantry Battalions Inc. to help install two plaques on the Bullecourt Barracks Memorial, Adamstown. One plaque will describe the Battles of Bullecourt and the other will commemorate local Newcastle Army volunteers.
$1,300,000 for Trade Training Centre at Hunter Christian School - 16 December 2011 Hunter Christian School will receive up to $1,300,000 to build a Trade Training Centre with an electrotechnology workshop and see the refurbishment of an existing engineering workshop, delivering Certificate I and II qualifications in electrotechnology and engineering for local students.
$1,787,825 for Nurse Practitioners - 15 December 2011 Sharon Grierson MP, Member for Newcastle, and Greg Combet AM MP, Member for Charlton, announced that funding of $1,787,825 was being provided for local projects that will see Nurse Practitioners deliver quality health care to older Australians in the Region.
$7,500 Scholarship for Career Advisers - 7 December 2011 Local career advisers Jane Aspinall and Karen Tryk will both receive Scholarships for Career Advisers, $2,500 and $5,000 respectively, to participate in study or an industry placement.
$24,000,000 to Hexham freight loop - 7 December 2011 The Northern Sydney Freight Corridor will see an upgrade between North Strathfield and Newcastle, expanding freight capacity over the 160 kilometre rail corridor, with $24 million allocated for a Hexham freight loop.
$400,000 to CREATE Your Future - 6 December 2011 The CREATE Foundation’s new Newcastle office was opened today, to support up to 400 young people transitioning from out of home care in the Hunter Region over the next two years.
$650,000 through Primary Care Infrustructure Grants - 18 November 2011 King Street General Practice in Newcastle received $150,000 and Khaira Surgery in Waratah received $500,000 through the Federal Government's Primary Care Infrustructure Grants program, designed to make it easier for families to see a doctor closer to home.
$18,210 through Caring for our Country - 15 November 2011 Sharon Grierson MP today announced the Hunter-Central Rivers Catchment Management Authority for Kooragang Volunteers will receive a Community Action Grant of $18,210 as part of the 2011-12 Caring for our Country initiative.
$2,516,022 through Australian Research Council's Future Fellowships for Funding - 14 November 2011 Funding has been granted to four local research projects investigating algorithmic and computational advances in geometric group theory, triboelectric separation, iterative error correction codes and electricity distribution networks.
$1,125,000 through Australian Research Council's Discovery Early Career Research Award - 14 November 2011 Funding has been granted to three local research projects investigating programming based theory, germ cell regulation and high-speed wireless communication.
$10,000 Scholarship for Career Adviser - 11 November 2011 Local high school career adviser Mr Matt Bendall will receive an Industry Placement Scholarship to further the knowledge he passes on of workplaces, industry and occupations.
$112,552 for recipients of the Indigenous Staff Scholarships - 8 November 2011 Three local Indigenous staff members from the University of Newcastle have received Indigenous Staff Scholarships at a ceremony in Canberra.
$9,961,381 for local researchers through the Australian Research Council - 2 November 2011 Thirty-three local researchers at the University of Newcastle will share in $9,961,381 worth of scholarships through the Australian Research Council.
$80m for Air Warfare Destroyers - 18 October 2011 Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare and Member for Newcastle Sharon Grierson today announced more work and more jobs for the Hunter on the new Air Warfare Destroyers Project.
$12.7m for Health and Medical Research - 17 October 2011 Member for Newcastle, Sharon Grierson, has welcomed today’s announcement of the single largest investment in grants for health and medical research in Australian history, delivering almost $12.7 million for research at the University of Newcastle.
$5,000 Scholarship for Career Adviser - 7 October 2011 Local high school career adviser Levina Abbo will receive a federal Study Scholarship to assist in meeting the costs of a qualification upgrade.
$3,000 to Newcastle's Veteran Community through Saluting their Service grants - 30 September 2011 Newcastle's No. 77 Squadron Association will receive $3,000 in Australian Government funding through the Saluting Their Service program to assist in the publication of their pictorial history, Swift to Destroy.
$20,000 to Lambton Public School through the National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program - 28 September 2011 Lambton Public School's Building Bridges with Bali - An Art and Cultural Adventure will benefit from funding through the National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program.
$20,000 to New Lambton Public School through the National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program - 28 September 2011 New Lambton Public School's Making Connections with Japan will benefit from funding through the National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program.
$87,582 to Newcastle's Volunteer Community through the 2011 Volunteer Grants - 26 September 2011 Twenty-six Newcastle community based organisations have shared in funding through the Federal Government's Volunteer Grants program. The grants of up to $5000 aim to help organisations purchase much-needed equipment, help with volunteers' fuel costs, and cover the cost of training courses and background checks.
$87,692 to fund Newcastle's Veterans' projects - 12 September 2011 The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, today announced funding to support 74 projects and initiatives which will benefit thousands of veterans and their families across Australia, including local recipients Alzheimer's Australia, Lambton-New Lambton RSL Sub-branch, Zone 6 RSL Bowls Section, Adamstown RSL Sub-branch and Merewether RSL Sub-branch.
$698,000 to the Hunter Valley Research Foundation under Regional Development Australia Fund - 7 September 2011 Expanding the capacity of the Hunter Valley Research Foundation’s Maryville Research Centre, helping to attract and retain quality researchers and strengthening the local knowledge based sector.
$7,000,000 to Newcastle Art Gallery under Regional Development Australia Fund - 7 September 2011 The expansion of Newcastle Art Gallery will increase its usable space to over 2,300 square metres over two levels. New facilities will include a theatrette, function space, cafe and retail shops, and open the Gallery to the Darby Street buzz, creating a cultural heart for Newcastle City.
$412,225 over three years to Newcastle Permanent Building Society under the Green Building Fund - 31 August 2011 This project involves removing existing water-cooled chillers and replacing them with energy efficient Powerpax chillers. The project will significantly reduce the building's carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption.
$14,960,311 over the next three years for local Family Support Programs - 31 August 2011 For programs to support vulnerable and disadvantaged families including: Family Dispute Resolution, Family Law Counselling, Family Relationship Centres and, Supporting Children after Separation
$318,502 to Awabakal (Newcastle) for the New Directions Mothers and Babies Services Program – 26 August 2011 To make it easier for Indigenous babies and mothers to access antenatal and postnatal care, essential information about baby care, practical advice and assistance with breastfeeding, nutrition and parenting.
$2,600,000 to Newcastle Airport - 25 August 2011 To boost security through the Labor Government's Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) Program.
$100,000 to Newcastle City Council for the City Evolution Project - 26 July 2011 The City Evolution project will install light projectors on a number of major cultural landmarks in Newcastle.
$125,412 to local organisations under the Home and Community Care (HACC) Program – 22 July 2011 The HACC program helps older people, younger people with a disability and their carers to receive assistance so they can remain in their homes longer. $149,000 to Mercy Community Services under the Proceeds of Crime Act - 5 May 2011 For the McCauley Turning Lives Around (Restoring Hope and Choice) Project which will see the expansion of current Intensive Behaviour Management Program (beyond DoCS approved clients) to mainly work with parents who have alcohol or drug problems and have been involved in the criminal justice system, or at risk of such, and who have children under 12 years of age in their care.
