$580,000,000 - Rail Infrastructure from Hunter Valley to Newcastle Port
On 12 December 2008, the Prime Minister announced the $4.7 billion Nation Building Package. This investment includes $580,000,000 to exapand capacity along along the rail corridors connecting Hunter Valley coal mines to the Port of Newcastle - a benefit for the entire Hunter region.

To Newcastle University as part of the phase out of full-fee undergraduate degrees.

For 18 health and medical research projects at Newcastle University.

$9,260,528 - Australian Research Council Grants - 15 October 2008.
For 26 innovative research projects at the University of Newcastle.

The Government's $10.4 billion Economic Stimulus Package benefited thousands of people in Newcastle
7,526 single aged pensioners will receive $1,400 each;
7,733 members of an age pension couple will share $2,100;
7,453 disability support pensioners will receive $1,400 each;
2,708 veteran service pensioners will receive $1,400; and
907 carer payment recipients will receive $1,400.
